A hand-coloured fashion plate from the possession of my grandmother,
source unknown. Only the make-up of the dress gives a hint for
dating - mid to late 1880s, the Second Bustle. The scene depicted
is of a lady visiting another,
discussing an embroidery or lace pattern. While the hostess
is seated, legs crossed, in a long-sleeved house gown, the visitor
wears a hat, gloves, and a suit with an elborate tunique drapery
in three layers.
